Cumberland County Jail is the largest ICE-contracted detention facility in Maine. The county can break the contract with only 30 days of notice.

Sheriff Joyce and the Board of Commissioners say the contract is just the status quo and that prisoners are better off being taken far away from their families and networks of support and brought to Maine.

At their last meeting, the Commissioners tabled a proposal to end the ICE contract before they took a vote. On Monday, November 17th, the Commissioners are holding their next meeting. While they have not scheduled the issue for this upcoming meeting, we will be holding a teach-in just outside the County building.
