This revealing talk "Negative Emissions Technologies - silver bullets or false promises?" by Jonas Allesson Ph.D. Candidate focuses on Carbon Capture and Storage, which has re-entered the climate agenda in recent years.
Jonas Allesson is linked to the prestigious Lund University Centre for Sustainability Science. He studies the politics and policies of carbon dioxide removal, focusing especially on the political economy of Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS).
This talk will give a critical analysis of the promises and perils of so-called Negative Emissions Technologies and the broader field of Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) and asks questions like: What kind of climate modelling produced the projected need for massive negative emissions? What barriers do these technologies face? What are the risks of relying on technological fixes? Can we use these technologies in just and sustainable ways?
