Cumberland County Jail is the largest ICE-contracted detention facility in Maine. The county can break the contract with only 30 days of notice. Sheriff Joyce and the Board of Commissioners say the contract is just the status quo and that prisoners are better off being taken far away from their families and networks of support and brought to Maine.

On Monday the 20th, the Board of County Commissioners are holding their next meeting. After months of demanding they take up the issue of their ICE contract, they have finally included time for it on the agenda.
