Students Unite to Fight Climate Change: A global livestream on the one-year anniversary of LA’s fires featuring personal recollections and next steps from high school students from Pacific Palisades and neighboring Santa Monica who lost their homes or school in the inferno. Presented by Fridays for the Future International, Nazcca.org, Resilient Palisades, Climate Action Santa Monica, Third Act, and many others.

In January 2025, wildfires brought enormous devastation to the Los Angeles basin, notably Palisades and Altadena. The fires destroyed some 18000 homes and structures, killed some 31 to 440 people, forced 200 000 to evacuate, and burned over 57000 acres or 23000 hectares. Pacific Palisades was close to wiped out. Now a bit over a year later, under Climate Talks for Everyone, high school students from Palisades High School and Santa Monica High School together with members of the community will gather at ground zero where parts of their high school once stood to recall those moments. A few of those students will together with a moderator of the FFF Newsletter share their feelings. This event will be transmitted across the country via zoom and livestreamed via facebook and YouTube.

We urge groups across the country, especially high schoolers, to hold watch gatherings to share and discuss what these fires were about and what these students are doing. You can use this zoom link,https://us06web.zoom.us/j/82842557004. If you do not want to use zoom to watch together or alone, you are also welcome to livestream these moments and invite others to watch, by signing up here, https://actionnetwork.org/forms/livestreaming-form-for-palisades-high-school/. Lists of those livestreaming links will be circulated to hosts or to those who want information.
