People Power 101: Getting Started with Organizing Relationships

Start: Monday, March 03, 2025 6:30 PM

End: Monday, March 03, 2025 8:30 PM

Let's be honest: organizing to win takes time. That means organizers need to build and sustain a group of people to fight for the long haul, and with all the ups and downs that come with the fight for equity and democracy. So how do you ensure a movement lasts longer than a moment?

Find out all about it on Monday, March 3rd at 6:30 PM at MLK Library. In this training, you'll have the opportunity to get into the weeds on the role of relationship building in creating robust, sustainable movements for democracy. Organizing is all about relationships—and relationships start with a conversation. In this training, we’ll break down the art of a 1:1 meeting: what it is, why it matters, and how to do it well.

Through interactive exercises, we’ll cover:

The Purpose of a 1:1 – Why talking to people one-on-one is the foundation of strong movements.
Active Listening & Powerful Questions – It’s not just about what you say—it’s about how you listen.
Finding Out Someone's Motivation – What moves people to take action, and how can we tap into that?
Making an Ask – How to invite people to step into their power and take the next step.

By the end, you’ll feel confident having strategic conversations that build relationships, grow your organizing work, and move people to action. Whether you’re new to organizing or a seasoned pro looking to sharpen your skills, this training will leave you energized and ready to get to work.

This is a joint training between Rising Organizers and Free DC. We will provide general one on one skills and direct you to next action steps you can take to support DC's democratic rights.
