In 2022, Cuba held a national referendum vote on amendments to the constitution's family code legalizing same-sex marriage and adoption. The referendum passed, but not without a struggle against Cuba's more socially conservative elements.

In the US, as LGBTQ rights continue to be in the crosshairs of the Trump administration, we look to this victory in Cuba to see what we can learn and apply to our own struggles here.

Join the DSA International Committee and the Oklahoma City DSA Queer Liberation Working Group as we have a panel discussion with speakers who will share their perspectives on the struggle for queer rights in both Cuba and the US: María del Mar Otero Bolaños, Professor of Family Law at the University of Havana, and Nicole Poindexter, former Assistant Campaign Director at the Human Rights Campaign.

This event will be recorded and shared publicly afterward.
