Looking for a fun way to dip your toes into socialist theory?

The BDSA Membership Engagement Committee is excited to debut a Socialism 101 series.

For our final Read Along session, we will be reading and discussing the introduction to "Escape from Capitalism: An Intervention” (2026) by Clara Mattei, which will be the subject of our new book group (details forthcoming)!

We’ll each take turns reading aloud (Or you can choose to listen along instead), with natural pauses for conversation and reflection on what we’re reading/learning and how it relates to our lived experiences and the world around us.

In "Escape from Capitalism," Mattei explains how economics is not an inevitable force of nature, but a political system that can be replaced. (Meaning we have the power to end capitalism and make socialism possible!)

It’s an excellent, informative, and inspiring book, and we hope you'll join us in reading the introduction as a group. (And stay tuned for details about when we’ll come together to discuss the entire book!)
