RECLAIM MLK DAY: A Day of Action, Education & Resistance

Martin Luther King, Jr. was not only a civil rights leader—he was a human rights leader. His work was unfinished in his lifetime, and it remains unfinished today.

Too often, Dr. King’s legacy is reduced to a single speech or softened sound bites that strip away his radical commitment to justice. Reclaim MLK Day is an intentional gathering to honor his full vision—one that named and challenged racism, militarism, and capitalism, and called everyday people to take responsibility for creating change.

Some have said the statue of Dr. King in Washington, D.C. looks unfinished. So is his work. As Dr. King reminded us in his 1967 “Beyond Vietnam” speech, “Our only hope today lies in our ability to recapture the revolutionary spirit.” Reclaim MLK Day is about doing just that.

Join us for a day rooted in community, truth-telling, and action as we continue the fight to finish the work Dr. King and so many others began.

🗓 Monday, January 19
10:00AM–2:00PM
📍 First United Methodist Church (FUMC)
603 State St., Schenectady

The day will include:
• Refreshments
• Banner and sign making
• Crucial community conversations
• Guest speakers
• Opportunities for reflection, resistance, and collective action

This is not a celebration of a sanitized history. This is a call to carry forward Dr. King’s revolutionary message—one that demands justice, equity, and humanity for all.

Let us Reclaim MLK.
Let us carry the stone of hope forward.
Let us continue the work—together.
