"MISSING AND MURDERED INDIGENOUS WOMEN TASK FORCE, S.F. 515:
I am thrilled to share that my proposal was included and fully funded
in the Judiciary Omnibus bill. S.F. 515 creates a task force to address
the systemic causes behind the number of missing and murdered Indigenous
women in Minnesota. The task force will include Indigenous leaders, law
enforcement, policymakers and the public. A special
thank you to all the people who supported the bill and who came to the
Capitol to lobby, to testify, and to share your stories. Your advocacy
made all the difference. We did it! " (Patricia Torres Ray) https://www.senate.mn/members/newsletter/1151_Ray_Patricia/05-23-2019%20Newsletter.htm

Historic Day in Minnesota for survivors and families of lost lived ones!!
HF70/SF515 MN Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women Task Force PASSED UNANIMOUS!!!! 128 to 0!! TODAY!! in the house. Thank you!! Rep. Mary Kunesh- Podein and all the beautiful testimonies from survivors and families that work to help make it happen!!
Please Read full Announcement Below on Link from Rep. Kunesh-Podein Legislative Up Date!
Minnesota House unanimously approves Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women Task Force
“Behind every missing or murdered Indigenous woman is a family and a community that have fought for action,” said Rep. Kunesh-Podein (DFL-New Brighton). “Today we mourn the women we’ve lost, but we have renewed hope that no one will have to wonder if their daughters, their sisters, their mothers and loved ones will come home when they walk out the door.”

“Please Join: Tomorrow at 9 am there will be a House hearing on the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women's Task Force bill (HF70). This week is crunch time! Conference Committee negotiations are happening this week that will determine whether the Senate Judiciary Omnibus bill will include the House's language from HF70.
Sen Limmer holds the keys and promised Sen Torres-Ray that he would include that language, but things don't always go as promised so we need to keep the pressure on. Timing a call to coincide with the hearing will help get your Rep's attention to put pressure on House negotiators to fight harder for their bill in Conference Committee.”
Hence calling your House Representative will help! Even a few calls can make a difference and move it up their agenda. You can find your Rep's # at https://www.house.leg.state.mn.us/members/list.
Feel free to use your own words, but here's a script if that helps:
Hi, my name is XX, I’m calling from XX. I’m calling to ask the Representative to urge House negotiators to fight hard for the language in HF70 in Conference Committee. This is the “Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women task force bill” considered in Thursday's hearing. The Senate version of the bill (SF515) did not specify any funding for the task force. Let's demonstrate Minnesota's commitment to safety for the women in our Native communities. Thank you.

Allies and Advocates in Solidarity for MMIW: Call for Support
Allies and Advocates : Call for Solidarity & Support Please Show Your Support for House File (HF 70) / Senate File (SF515/SF1736) ! This Minnesota legislature would help address the epidemic of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls here in Minnesota!
This bill would establish a needed task force to address this epidemic—an important first step!
We are so grateful to Representative Mary Kunesh-Podein & Senator Patricia Torres Ray for bringing this forth in the House of Representatives (House File 70) and the Senate (Senate File 515).
Currently the task force bill has been inserted into the Senate’s Omnibus Judiciary and Public Safety Funding Bill (SF 802), but without any funding! Funding is critical to ensure this task force can actually make a difference for missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls. The legislation is at risk of becoming a political bargaining chip during the House/Senate reconciliation process. The lack of visibility and priority given to this important legislation is of great concern.
We are calling on all of our Allies in Solidarity for MMIW!
This Minnesota legislation would help address the epidemic of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls here in Minnesota!
Please Show Your Continued Support for House File (HF 70) / Senate File (SF515/SF1736) !

This bill would establish a needed task force to address this epidemic—an important first step!
Thank You Representative Mary Kunesh-Podein & Senator Patricia Torres Ray
Currently the task force has been inserted into a separate tax bill at this point, but without any funding! Funding is critical to ensure this task force actually makes a difference for missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls.
URGENT CALL!- Please call the Senate today to ensure funding for this task force.

I am grateful that you are addressing the historic trauma and current human rights crisis facing Indigenous Women. However, I am very concerned that since this bill does not contain funding, the Task Force will not be able to complete its work.
Please Let the Senators know:
"The bill is in the Judiciary Committee, and you hope they will raise this concern with the committee
I urge that you ensure the Task Force is funded –please show Minnesota our commitment and dedication to our Native communities by funding this Task Force”
