Br. Razaak and Br. Nilam are hosting this event in support of Fatima Iqbal-Zubair for California State Assembly.
California has the largest Muslim population yet we have never had representation at the State Legislature; if Fatima wins, she will be the first SriLankan and the Muslim elected to the CA State Legislature. Fatima Iqbal-Zubair is a public school teacher in Watts,CA, an immigrant, mother and candidate for Assembly District 64, who has made the November run-off. If she wins, she will have the ability to represent all of us, and push policy for the entire state of California. We are hosting this fundraiser to make sure she has the funds to win this race and make it to Sacramento!
With the rise of Islamophobia and anti-immigrant rhetoric, having political representation is important. Fatima also lives and works in one of the poorest districts in California which is low-income, 65% Latinx, and 20% Black. She is running as a Democrat against the second biggest acceptor of corporate money, including police money, in the entire State Legislature. The incumbent has failed to respond to the needs of his constituents, and Fatima is running a people-centered, corporate PAC free campaign to take all of our voices to Sacramento. With the onset of the pandemic and police brutality the country is ready for systemic change. Fatima has been endorsed by Our Revolution, Sunrise Movement, Progressive Democratic Club and many other groups. Her vision is to create a California where all people are at the table when important decisions are made. Please learn more about here here: www.fatimaforassembly.com. We look forward to seeing you at this fundraiser!
