At 9:00 AM East Africa Time, Samuel Weswa of Flamingo Chap Chap will open the Youth Summit Conference in Kenya wth a welcome and plans for the day. Prof. Stefan Sommer will begin his talk at 9.15 AM.
Prof. Sommer will address "The State of World Climate 2025, focus Africa:
the Climate Crisis is accelerating; what to expect." The rate of global warming has accelerated, and new temperature regimes have reset all climate systems in unexpected ways. Climate Models and weather prediction systems are based on what was once the normal range of variation. Since baselines have shifted, modelers and weather services are scrambling to keep up. The only “New Normal” is that we expect more extremes of every kind. The kinds of droughts that set up the Syrian war and the flooding from Cyclones Freddy and Idai in Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and Malawi are just examples of what we can expect. Kenya, Uganda, and most countries across Africa are experiencing these outcomes. The talk will be followed by q and a.
