Who is For the Many?

For the Many (FTM) is a statewide coalition of more than 30 individual organizations in New Jersey. We work to advance adequate and sustainable funding sources and sound budget practices through policy change and advocacy.

Our coalition members represent a diverse range of issues and populations in NJ. We rely on our collective policy expertise to advocate for more equitable budget and revenue priorities. We serve as a resource for policymakers, stakeholders, and other advocates. Our members include unions, policy experts, environmental groups, anti-poverty advocates, immigrant rights groups, and community-based organizations.

Broadly, we propose that New Jersey needs to:

  1. Raise revenue more fairly.
  2. Ensure we have smart, responsible, sustainable budgets.
  3. Prioritize racial and economic equity, critical to making life in our diverse state work for the many instead of the wealthy few.

What’s at Stake Right Now

  • Federal cuts will strip health and food security from hundreds of thousands of New Jersey families.
  • The state already faces a $1.5 billion structural deficit, even with state staffing at all-time lows, making it harder to fund the programs that serve residents’ basic needs.
  • The cost of housing, groceries, and utilities keeps climbing while underfunded transit makes it harder for families to get by, widening the gap between the wealthy few and everyone else.
  • The wealthiest households got the biggest federal windfalls while everyone else falls further behind. Families making over $500,000 are expected to see over $20,000 in annual tax breaks, while families earning 35,000 or less will get $130.

The Solution Is Simple

New Jersey can raise new revenue by asking wealthy residents and corporations to pay their fair share. These policies are popular with voters and essential to funding a New Jersey where every family can thrive.

  • Super Millionaires Tax: New income tax brackets for the ultra-rich: $2M, $5M, and $10M+. This change will affect less than 1 percent of households and would generate $1.2 billion in new revenue.
  • Close Corporate Tax Loopholes: Stop offshore tax-dodging by requiring multinational corporations to pay taxes on the portion of their profits earned in New Jersey, just like every small and local business in the state. This would generate $890 million in new revenue.
We say: It’s time to invest in New Jersey's future

If New Jersey truly values its diversity and cares about the working class and disenfranchised among us, we will pass a budget that fully funds the assets and services we all rely on and funds them by those with the most resources to pay their fair share.
