PROTECTED CAMPAIGN

In order to combat the long term impacts of Mass Incarceration we needed to organize design tactics that will restore the human rights of the people directly impacted by the criminal legal system.

Barred Business’ goal is to expand protections for justice-impacted people by amending the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Civil Rights Act of 1991 to specifically include people who are impacted by the justice system.

Through the Protected Campaign, Barred Business applied a building block strategy of amending local municipal ordinances passed October 17, 2022. We are now moving onto the state statues, and then finally advancing to the targeted federal legislations Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Civil Rights Act of 1991.

WHAT WE ARE FIGHTING FOR:

  • We want the Atlanta City Council’s Public Safety and Legal Committee to Vote Yes on Ordinance 22-O-1748 TO AMEND THE CITY OF ATLANTA CODE OF ORDINANCES CHAPTER 94 WHICH PROHIBITS DISCRIMINATION THROUGHOUT THE CITY, TO INCLUDE PERSONS DIRECTLY IMPACTED BY THE CRIMINAL LEGAL SYSTEM.

  • We want Atlanta’s Full City Council to Vote Yes on Ordinance 22-O-1748

  • We want all people to be protected from discrimination.

  • We want justice-impacted people to become a protected class in the City of Atlanta.

  • We want all residents in Atlanta to have access to housing, employment, and opportunities.

  • We want the most vulnerable among us to have what they need to live full, thriving lives.
