Sign the petition to secretaries of state: Disqualify Trump from running for president!
The January 6 insurrection was a direct attack on the foundation of our democratic institutions, only made worse by the fact that the former sitting president, Donald Trump, incited the violence that day. Trump's actions and his continued propagation of the "Big Lie" around the 2020 election results pose a significant threat to the integrity of our democratic processes.
The federal government has indicted Trump on several charges related to his efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election. The indictments included charges of conspiring to defraud the United States government, conspiring to obstruct an official proceeding, and other more.
The 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution provides a clear path to protect our democracy from those who would undermine it. Section 3 of the Amendment states that any person who has taken an oath to support the Constitution but has subsequently engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the United States is disqualified from holding office.
Watchdog groups have filed legal challenges in Colorado, Minnesota, New Hampshire, and Michigan, aiming to keep Trump off the ballot for the 2024 presidential election. These lawsuits argue that Trump is disqualified under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment due to his actions related to the January 6 insurrection.
The 14th Amendment has disqualified individuals from holding public office before. Couy Griffin was removed from his position as an elected county commissioner in New Mexico for his role in the January 6 attack.
We believe that the same standard should apply to Donald Trump. His treasonous actions have demonstrated a clear disregard for the Constitution and the democratic principles that it upholds.
Our democracy is precious. It's the foundation of our freedom and our way of life. We must protect it from those who would seek to undermine it. Sign the petition to secretaries of state: Disqualify Trump from running for President – it's in the Constitution.
