It is easy to think genocide is something from a bygone era but it is happening all around us. Genocide Watch has 20 countries on its "Genocide Alerts" page.
While the problem is huge and horrible, there are things we can all do to end it. At No Businesses with Genocide (NBWG), we work to stop companies from supporting governments that commit mass atrocities. We also work to educate people about the problem and lobby Congress, cities, and states to pass resolutions condemning genocide and vowing they will spend no taxpayer dollars on it.
The good news is we are making headway. With the help of supporters like you, Kirin Beer cut its ties with the Myanmar military. Chevron and Total have cut their payments to that brutal organization. The U.S., UK, and EU have placed sanctions on them as well.
Japanese footwear giant, Mizuno, has stopped using cotton from the Xinjiang region of China, which is home to the Uighurs.
Closer to home, Gainesville, Florida just passed a resolution against genocide and several other cities and localities are considering doing the same.
But we need your help. We are still working hard to end the sale of #genocidegems by companies like Harry Winston (and its parent Swatch). Ninety percent of the world's rubies come from Myanmar and the military there reaps the rewards.
Companies such as Nike, Apple, and Zara buy products made by the imprisoned Uyghurs. Too many businesses support crimes against humanity because it is better for their bottom line.
"Hotel Rwanda" hero Paul Rusesabagina still sits in jail. We are working to bring him home.
Your donation will help us continue this important work. Will you help? We can't do it without you.
