Fairfax Solar Schools Campaign
After years of delays, solar panels have finally started to go up on some Fairfax County schools. This is great news! School solar will help FCPS reduce its energy costs, provide learning opportunities for students and mitigate climate change.
However, FCPS currently has plans for solar on only a small fraction of its 199 schools and centers. That's worrisome because the window for school solar projects is closing with the accelerated phaseout of the commercial solar tax credit. Use the action that matches your magisterial district to write to your school board member, the three at-large members and Superintendent Michelle Reid about this issue. Urge them to move quickly to install solar on as many school roofs as possible!
This campaign is sponsored by Chesapeake Climate Action Network, Citizens Climate Lobby — Fairfax County Chapter, Mothers Out Front, and Virginia Clinicians for Climate Action.
