Goal of this document

FFF+ Map Slack and local groups, with our “everyone is welcome, everyone is needed movement',” would work far better with SOS practices. SOS practices use the hierarchy of purpose, rather than the typical hierarchy of people, with a control and command process. It will let small teams have a mandate to carry out their work, both autonomously and in collaboration with other groups. This Kumu.io map seeks to enable transparency of the existing groups.

SOS Mandate– starting the suggested process. Advice welcome:

  1. Decide the purpose of the group, and does it need to exist? If so, where does it fit in the circle structure? How does it relate to existing groups?

  2. Call for interest in joining, create a pad/minutes, meeting time, chat, and communication tools.

  3. Collectively draft a mandate. Check glass frog, kumu.io and other regions, to see if sample mandates exist for the same/similar group that you can use as a template.

  4. Collectively vote on mandate. If a group is a sub-circle of another WG, then the mandate also needs to be advised/recommended/approved by the parent circle.

  5. Elect Coordinators, use the standard SOS External Coordinator (EC) and Internal Coordinator (IC) mandates and adapt if necessary.

Definitions:

FFF: fridaysforfuture

FFF+: fridaysforfuture with many other groups which use the map, including climate and human rights movements.

FFF+ map Slack: ClimateAction-organizing, including FFF slack

LG: local group

SOS:Self Organizing System

IC: Internal Coordinator

EC: External Coordinator

Mandate: purpose, accountabilities, domain, roles of workgroups (circles)

Vision: overarching mandate

Coordinators circle: (also known as parent/anchor/bridge/larger) all External Coordinators and Internal Coordinators from each group.

Circle: workgroup, team

Steward: right to administer, decide about contect, access, banner, without ownership.

Ownership Custodian: owns the tool while entrusting stewardship to others.
