Health Care for America Now's New York State Network is comprised of organizations across New York who work together advance and support HCAN's mission and activities with regard to federal health care programs and issues. HCAN is a national, multi-constituency umbrella coalition founded in 2008 to bring supportive forces together out in the states and communities beyond the Washington DC beltway. It mission is to organize and manifest support for the federal government to assure that all people across the US have access to comprehensive, affordable, and quality health care in their communities.

HCAN's various campaign's to date include:

• Making health care a top-tier issue during federal election cycles by helping voters understand "what's at stake" and what candidates' statements and proposals really mean (2008 to the present.) -- success!
• Enactment of comprehensive national health care reform legislation, now known as the Affordable Care Act (2009-10.) -- success!
• Pushing for robust implementation of the Affordable Care Act by both the federal government and state governments (2011-13.) -- success!
• Protecting existing funding for federal health care programs during annual budget deliberations by Congress and the President (2012 to the present.) -- success!
• Protecting federal health care programs during periodic Congressional deliberations to raise the debt ceiling (2011 to the present.) -- success!
• Stopping efforts by Congress to "repeal-and-replace" the Affordable Care Act (2017.) -- success!
• Pushing for the federal government to lower prescription drug prices along with out-of-pocket costs for patients (2019 to the present.) -- success!
• Pushing Congress to protect patients against surprise out-of-network medical bills (2019-20.) -- success!
• Protecting and expanding funding for federal health care programs during the COVID-19 public health emergency (2020-22.) - success!
• Making Affordable Care Act health plans more affordable for more people and families to buy and use (2021 to the present.) -- success!
• New for 2025! Protecting all federal health care programs from massive spending cuts and fundamental changes in order to pay for EVEN MORE HUGE tax cuts for big corporations and the ultra-rich. Join with us to fight back!
