Save Our Seniors Network

Los Angeles, CA

Save Our Seniors Network was born out of the fight against the privatization of the former Keiro Nursing and Retirement Homes, which were founded 50 years ago as a means to offset current discrimination in the current U.S. healthcare system. Since the Keiro Nursing and Retirement Homes, previously managed by a non-profit, were sold to international developer, Pacifica Companies, in 2016, the lives of the abandoned seniors have been placed in peril.

One of these mismanaged facilities, Kei-Ai Los Angeles skilled nursing facilities is the worst COVID-19 cumulative death facility west of the Mississippi. At another, Sakura Intermediate Care Facility, the ONLY bilingual/bi-cultural facility of its kind in the U.S, Pacifica Companies is coercing elderly patients out of the building to make way for a conversion to a market-rate rental income facility, which also promises to exacerbate gentrification and displacement in the Los Angeles Boyle Heights community.

This instance of private interests in the senior care industry, endangering the lives of the vulnerable in the name of profit, is not unique to the Save Our Seniors Network campaign to defend bilingual and bi-cultural care for Japanese Americans and Japanese seniors. Thus, Save Our Seniors Network works in solidarity with others to win healthcare justice for all.
