About Maui Housing Hui

Maui Housing Hui is a grassroots collective of Maui organizers committed to “Standing Together for Housing on Maui ” across the Valley Isle. The Maui Housing Hui was founded in 2023 through the organizing efforts of tenants committed to addressing systemic issues on Maui that limit housing accessibility, affordability, and safety for long-term renters.

Through education, community outreach, and advocacy for tenants' rights, the Maui Housing Hui seeks to create substantial change to the ongoing rental housing crisis on Maui. Now, the Maui Housing Hui is focused on the impacts of the Maui Wildfires on our community and seeks to influence change toward sustainable rental housing solutions that preserve the dignity and welfare of those in our community.

• Demand the extension of the eviction moratorium and rent freeze

• Insist on enforcement actions for illegal evictions or eviction attempts

• Press State and Federal agencies for clear, culturally-sensitive communication with those sheltered

• Insist that Local, State, and Federal agencies recognize those sheltered due to the Wildfires deserve long-term rentals so they can begin to heal
