Osmond Chiu for NSW Policy Forum

Osmond Chiu, rank-and-file NSW Policy Forum representative

My name is Osmond Chiu and I am your rank-and-file representative on the NSW Labor State Policy Forum.

I'm a Research Fellow at the Per Capita thinktank and have worked for a decade in policy roles in the public service and trade union movement. I was also named as one of the 40 under 40 most influential Asian Australians in 2021.

My writing has appeared in publications including the Sydney Morning Herald, Guardian Australia, Crikey, Jacobin, Canberra Times and South China Morning Post. I was also a contributor to the book What Happens Next? Reconstructing Australia after COVID-19, published by Melbourne University Press.

I believe that fighting inequality, strengthening our democracy and averting catastrophic climate change are interlinked. Labor cannot address the challenges we face, let alone win elections, by offering a shopping list to the electorate that the Coalition will match.

For Labor to be successful, NSW Labor needs to be successful. It needs to offer solutions as big as the problems faced that democratise and decarbonise our economy.

We need a party that reflects the diversity of our communities and for our elected officials to genuinely listen to rank-and-file members. A more representative party means better policy solutions and a more engaged, stronger party that can deliver the change we urgently need.
