Tell your Legislators to Vote YES on SB979 to require fair and equitable evaluations of public schools

UPDATE: 1/30/25

This bill has advanced to the Senate Floor. Please take action again to tell our Senators to support this bill!

Please tell the Senate to vote for SB979. The Virginia Department of Education under Governor Youngkin recently revised its system for evaluating the performance of public schools. However, this new system has been heavily criticized for unfair treatment of schools with students who are not yet proficient in the English language, and for ignoring public feedback about the plan.

To ensure that the new plan will be fair, transparent, and effective at improving student growth and learning outcomes statewide, and does not increase inequities in our public schools, we need a stakeholder advisory committee to review the revised system and correct flaws before it is implemented.

This bill requires that before the newly revised system is implemented, a stakeholder advisory committee can review and report on potential flaws in the system.

This is a companion bill to HB2118 so please answer BOTH calls to action.
