Virginia public school teachers earn substantially less than the national average, and the low salary contributes to our shortage of teachers. HB279 would require funding for an annual increase in salary for instructional and support positions in the 2027 and 2028 Sessions of the General Assembly to at least the national average by the end of the 2029 fiscal year.
