Stop the UAE From Fueling Genocide in Sudan
Stop the UAE from fueling genocide in Sudan
In Darfur, civilians are living under the assaults of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). For more than a year, the RSF have besieged the El Fasher, the North Darfur capital, and weaponized starvation by blocking food, medicine, and humanitarian aid from entering. Never has the need been more urgent.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is the main supporter of the RSF. There are two bills before Congress that would prevent the Trump administration from selling weapons and other systems to the UAE, which will prevent them from falling into the hands of the RSF. Senator Chris Van Hollen (D, Maryland) has introduced S.935 and U.S. Representative Sarah Jacobs (D, CA-51) has introduced H.R.2059.
Both bills would prohibit the President from selling or authorizing a license for the export of covered defense articles under the Arms Export Control Act to the United Arab Emirates until the President certifies to Congress that the UAE is no longer providing materiel support to the Rapid Support Forces in Sudan.
