To VA House: Expand Energy Storage for a Cleaner, More Affordable, More Reliable Electric Grid

A battery energy storage system

Energy storage—large banks of batteries and other advanced technologies—is a cornerstone of a clean, modern energy system. It makes electricity more reliable, more affordable, and far less polluting. By storing power when it’s plentiful and cheap and releasing it when demand spikes—like during a scorching summer afternoon—energy storage replaces our dependence on costly, dirty fossil gas plants that only run in emergencies.
Paired with distributed clean energy like solar and wind, and smarter, more flexible grid management, energy storage unlocks a fundamental shift: away from massive fossil-fuel power plants and toward a resilient, efficient grid powered by clean energy.
Battery costs have been falling fast—roughly 20% per year over the last decade—and states across the country are moving quickly to seize this opportunity. Virginia is being left behind.
The technology is ready. The economics are clear.
The Commonwealth must invest in energy storage NOW.

Write all members of the House Labor and Commerce committee with this action to ask for a YES vote on HB895 (Sullivan).
