Grid Justice Colorado: The Regional Mission

Grid Justice Colorado: Accountability for the Front Range. A professional and modern vector illustration featuring the silhouetted peaks of the Rocky Mountains against a dark, dusk sky. In the foreground, a row of traffic signals are shown with dark lenses, symbolizing the grid failure. The design is minimalist and sleek, utilizing high-contrast yellow and white typography on a deep charcoal background to emphasize the movement's regional focus

The Front Range is being held hostage by a failing grid. Xcel Energy is currently failing to provide basic service to over 100,000 customers across Boulder, Jefferson, Larimer, Weld, Clear Creek, and Gilpin counties.

We are trapped in a "Service Failure Loop"—where families are given restoration times only to face new, uncoordinated shutoffs just hours later. This is not a weather event; it is a management collapse. While Xcel petitions the PUC for a 9.9% rate increase (Proceeding 25AL-0494E) to fund infrastructure, our lines remain above ground and vulnerable.

The Reality of Our Two-Tiered Energy System:

  • Unreliable Infrastructure: We refuse to pay 21st-century rates for a grid so fragile it must be manually disabled whenever the wind blows.

  • The Energy Burden: This crisis creates a two-tiered energy system. While those with private backup systems remain powered, the disenfranchised—who spend up to 14% of their income on utility bills—are left to watch their food spoil in the dark.

  • A Public Safety Hazard: Our streets have become lethal. Xcel’s failure to coordinate has left critical traffic signals dark during 100mph winds, endangering every driver across the Front Range.

Our Demands for Grid Justice:

  1. Deny the Profit Hike: No rate increases in Proceeding 25AL-0494E until Xcel presents a binding, state-audited plan to underground all high-risk wind corridors.

  2. End the Service Failure Loop: We demand an end to the uncoordinated "restoration loops" that leave families and businesses in total uncertainty for days at a time.

  3. Accountability for the 14%: We stand for the renters and working-class families whose disproportionate energy burden is funding corporate dividends while their basic safety is compromised.
