Help Us Secure an REI Board Seat for Environmentalist Tefere Gebre!

Calling all REI Co-op members, workers, and shoppers: we need YOUR help bringing democracy, worker voices, and environmentalism BACK to the forefront of our Co-op.

We’ve partnered with Tefere Gebre - the current Chief Program Officer for Greenpeace and the former Executive Vice President of the AFL-CIO - and we’re thrilled to announce that he’s running to join REI’s Board of Directors! Tefere submitted his application to REI, and now we need as many REI members, workers, and shoppers as possible to endorse Tefere for the REI Board.

Why Tefere is an Excellent Fit for the REI Board

Tefere Gebre has been a trailblazer in supporting worker's rights and the environmental movement for his entire career. He’s held high-level positions at both the AFL-CIO and Greenpeace, he cares deeply about the connection between labor and the environment, and he knows that putting the needs of hardworking people first is key to ensuring we set ourselves up for a sustainable future.

Tefere is also passionate about REI’s core values, such as expanding access to the outdoors for all, ensuring racial equity across the outdoor space, and protecting and conserving our environment. He recognizes that REI workers are the ones who can help the organization live out these values, and he’s promised to serve as a representative for the needs of every single green vest nationwide when elected to the Board.

How You Can Help:

Tell REI that YOU support Tefere Gebre joining the Board of Directors by adding your name! After you sign, we'll send a message to REI's Board Nominations and Governance Committee on your behalf.

And please be sure to send our petition to your family and friends! The more Co-op members, workers, and REI customers who publicly endorse Tefere for the Board, the greater our power to bring democracy back to the forefront of REI.
