Justice for Jarveon Hudspeth: Demanding Answers from Shelby County Sheriff's Office & Fire Department

On June 24, 2023, 21-year-old Jarveon Hudspeth was killed by a Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputy at a traffic stop. Jarveon’s mother lost her only son and his sister lost his only brother. His family says he was a devoted student who was studying to become an engineer at Lipscomb University. His family deserves answers and closure and Memphians deserve transparency. No one deserves to die at a traffic stop.

Jarveon’s family is demanding answers to these questions:

1. Where is the video?

2. Was he parked already or was he pulled over?

3. Why was he stopped/what precipitated the interaction?

4. Was this even a legal interaction by SCSO?

5. Why was he out of the vehicle?

6. What escalated the situation?

7. Did any good Samaritans attempt to help Jarveon?

8. When the paramedics came did they check on the deputy first?

9. How long was it before Jarveon was given medical attention?

10. Why was the family not notified when he was killed 800 feet from his door, an address that matched both his photo ID and vehicle registration?

11. What is the protocol for notifying a family that their loved one was killed by a Shelby County sheriff’s deputy?
