In another desperate bid to blame immigrants for their own policy failures, Trump and HUD are trying to kick “mixed status” immigrant families out of public and subsidized housing.

Today, households with eligible and ineligible members (such as undocumented people) can live together, but ineligible members don’t get government assistance. In fact, they pay more in rent and help fund more affordable units.

HUD’s proposed rule would change decades of policy designed to KEEP FAMILIES TOGETHER AND HOUSED by evicting undocumented household members, even though they pay full rent. It will rip families apart and push them toward eviction and homelessness.

It’s pointless, cruel, and counterproductive—kicking 37,000 citizen children to the curb during a housing crisis and wasting millions on red tape instead of keeping people housed.

En otro intento desesperado por culpar a los inmigrantes de sus propios errores, Trump y HUD quieren sacar a familias inmigrantes con estatus migratorio mixto de la vivienda pública y la vivienda subsidiada.

Hoy en día, en muchas familias algunas personas tienen papeles y otras no, pero pueden vivir juntas en la misma vivienda. Las personas sin papeles no reciben ayuda del gobierno. De hecho, muchas veces pagan más renta y ayudan a que haya más viviendas asequibles.

La nueva regla que propone HUD cambiaría una norma que existe desde hace décadas y que fue creada para MANTENER A LAS FAMILIAS JUNTAS Y CON TECHO. Con esta regla, podrían sacar a personas indocumentadas de sus hogares, aunque paguen la renta completa. Esto separaría a las familias y podría llevarlas al desalojo o a quedarse sin hogar.

Esta medida no tiene sentido. Es cruel y hace daño. En medio de una crisis de vivienda, podría dejar en la calle a 37,000 niños y niñas que son ciudadanos. Y en vez de ayudar a mantener a las familias en sus casas, el gobierno gastaría millones en papeleo y trámites.
