Urge Speaker Heastie & Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins to Support Speedy Passage of the Packaging Reduction Act
New York has an incredible opportunity to dramatically reduce plastic pollution! The Packaging Reduction & Recycling Infrastructure Act, sponsored by Environmental Conservation Committee Chairs Senator Pete Harckham and Assemblymember Deborah Glick, would address the biggest source of plastic pollution: single-use packaging. Here's what this bill would do:
- Require most companies that sell products in New York State to cut their single-use plastic packaging by 50%
- Prohibit packaging that can't be effectively recycled
- Ban more than a dozen of the most toxic chemicals currently used in packaging
- Reinvigorate New York State's recycling programs and relieves taxpayers by requiring companies to pay for the end-of-life management of their packaging
We are urging NY State's Legislative leaders to quickly pass the Packaging Reduction & Recycling Infrastructure Act (A5322-b/S4246-b) ASAP in 2024.
Fill out the form to urge Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie and Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins to bring this bill up for a vote ASAP this spring.
