The Chinese government continues to pressure countries around the world to forcibly return Uyghurs and other persecuted individuals back to the People’s Republic of China, where they face detention, torture, and even death.

The Preventing the Forced Return of Uyghurs Act of 2025 (S.2502), sponsored by Senators Jeff Merkley (D-OR) and John Cornyn (R-TX), would deny entry into the U.S. to any current or former government officials responsible for these human rights abuses and trigger additional financial sanctions against them.
