Protect the Grid and Texas Customers from Data Centers
Data centers are creating an unprecedented surge in demand for electricity, threatening grid reliability and affordability for Texans. There are approximately 400,000 MW of demand from new data centers in the ERCOT interconnection queue. That’s more than a 400% increase from current peak demand. Customers have already seen rates increase 30% over the past five years, and they are projected to increase at least that much in the next five years.
ERCOT is investing $33 billion in transmission infrastructure to serve data centers. Residential customers and small commercial customers must be protected. Data centers must pay the full cost of added transmission and increases in energy prices due to increasing demand.
