This summer the Postal Service moved forward with a rule that would block ballot delivery under Trump’s executive order attacking vote by mail.

The Postal Board of Governors had the power to defend USPS’s independence. They chose to stay silent and allow the Postal Service to do Trump’s bidding.

The good news is: The courts have blocked this scheme for the 2026 election. However, the board should now immediately rescind the rule for all future elections and before Trump has a chance to gain a majority on the board.

Postal governors must publicly oppose Trump’s executive order, reverse the ballot blocking rule, and use their oversight authority to protect our ballots and the Postal Service’s independence.

Vote by mail is a long-standing, safe, secure, and reliable way to participate in our elections. Voters can continue making their plans to vote in November, including by mail which remains safe and secure.

The Constitution is clear: states administer elections. The Postal Service’s responsibility is to deliver the mail — including our votes.
