Kevin “Rashid” Johnson also reports that after challenging the denial of Socialist Viewpoint, he was threatened with retaliation. This campaign matters because it points to escalating repression: censorship of protected political reading material, suppression of dissent, and punishment for prisoners who speak out. In a state shaped by plantation slavery, slave patrols, and later systems of racialized punishment, the suppression of Black political journalism cannot be dismissed as a neutral administrative problem. It reflects a longer history of controlling Black thought, communication, and resistance.
