Stop Trump’s Attack on Child Care and Families
America is in the middle of a child care crisis. With the cost of child care skyrocketing, hundreds of thousands of families depend on federal child care funding to care for their children and remain in the workforce. Without it, they’ll be forced to choose between essentials such as food and housing, or they could lose their child care altogether, forcing them to leave their jobs.
Now, the Trump administration is punishing families as part of a partisan attack on his perceived political opponents.
The administration just blocked $10 billion in funding assistance for child care programs, TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families), and social services for kids like foster care for five states that voted for his opponent in 2024.
The freeze could continue for a long time. Court challenges or document reviews in states could take months. But one thing is for sure: Trump is shamelessly stealing from working families in order to punish those who oppose his policies.
The funding freeze will shut down child care centers and force families to scramble in order to have someplace to send their kids while they’re at their jobs. Some people will have to choose between caring for their kids or going to work. Many will lose their jobs, throwing families into chaos.
In the blue states Trump is targeting, child care already costs the average family over $15,000 a year. Most working families can’t afford to take on such an expense, but they also can’t afford to leave their jobs to care for their children.
Congress must act immediately to end Trump’s partisan attack on children and working families.
