Support Alaska House Resolution 12 to establish a Special Committee on Climate Change

Attention Climate Warriors!

Human-caused climate change is wreaking havoc on Alaska, from summer wild fires to vanishing sea ice. We know that climate change threatens our forests, fisheries, biodiversity, communities, food security and way of life. It's beyond shameful and negligent that our elected state leaders have done little to nothing to date to address the climate crisis unfolding in our communities.

We have had enough of committees and studies that get tabled or worse; we need action.  A House Special Committee on Climate Change as authorized by House Resolution 12 would :

  • Enable members of House of Representatives to vet appointed bills through a climate change screen and draft and introduce new legislation;
  • Conduct fact-finding missions on the scope and impacts of climate change in Alaska and invite a wide range of Alaskan voices into legislative actions on this topic;
  • Provide an inclusive public forum for legislators and the people of Alaska to address climate change.

As of Wed, Jan. 15, the next 72 hours are crucial. To make this committee, and the potential for substantive state-level action on climate change a reality, the House Majority first needs to approve H.R. 12.

Please urge your state representative to support H.R. 12 by sending a message today!

In solidarity,

The Alaska Climate Action Network (AK CAN!) Team
