Tell Color of Change to Follow the Law!
Color of Change claims to be the largest racial justice organization in the nation, while reproducing the harms of white supremacy. Since 2020, the organization’s leadership has prioritized ambulance-chasing, providing six-figure severance packages to disgraced leadership (e.g. President, Vice President, Chief Financial Officer), and blatant labor law violations.
On December 16th, 2025, Color of Change illegally fired two employees.
Since 2023, more than 67 union members have been laid off. Despite the NLRB’s decision ordering them to provide back pay and re-employ the Black workers they illegally laid off in 2022. For over three years, Color of Change has persistently ignored the law and carelessly disrupted the livelihood of their predominantly Black staff.
In September of 2024, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) ruled that Color Of Change violated the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) when they unlawfully laid off 49 union employees in its first three rounds of layoffs, conducted in 2023. The NLRB ruled that these employees are entitled to their jobs back and to back pay. Color Of Change has refused to comply.
It’s been more than 1.5-years since the NLRB judgement, and forty-nine of us are still waiting for justice to be real.
Instead of making its workers whole, the organization chose to delay, appeal, and continue operating as if they were above the law. While publicly claiming to stand for justice and accountability, Color Of Change has actively denied justice to its own Black workers who were illegally fired and are still waiting to be paid for their labor.
COC has retained the notorious anti-labor law firm Seyfarth Shaw, outsourced bargaining-unit work to high-priced consultants, and prepared a six-figure severance package for Rashad Robinson, the president and leader of Color Of Change, whom employees overwhelmingly demanded to step down in October 2024, all while publicly stating they are facing financial instability.
Enough is enough. If you believe that, Color Of Change should halt its appeals to the NLRB and comply with the Board's ruling (i.e., illegally fired employees are entitled to get their jobs back and back pay.)
Send a letter to management and the board to let them know you stand with Black workers illegally fired by Color of Change .
