Tell NYS Utility Commissioners: No fake rate freeze
About This Action: Send a Letter to New York's Utility Commissioners
National Grid is asking New York State to approve what it calls a “rate freeze.” That might sound like good news, but there’s a serious concern: are costs actually being frozen, or simply delayed during an election year and added to our bills later?
National Grid is also seeking approval for a mechanism that could allow the company to continue making investments in DIRTY FRACKED GAS infrastructure and recover costs through our monthly bills later, without full public scrutiny upfront.
New Yorkers deserve answers before regulators approve a deal that could affect our utility bills for years to come.
We are calling on the New York State Public Service Commission to require full transparency and accountability before approving any proposal that could shift costs into the future.
We are asking Commissioners to:
- Require National Grid to clearly explain how any deferred costs would be tracked and recovered from customers.
- Ensure there is a full public review of gas infrastructure spending and long-term bill impacts.
- Compare expensive gas investments against lower-cost alternatives like energy efficiency, electrification, demand management, and storage.
- Prevent unnecessary gas system expansion that could lock New Yorkers into higher future costs.
A rate freeze should not become a hidden rate hike later.
New Yorkers can’t afford a fake rate freeze.
