Urge your Member of Congress to Support US-DPRK dialogue and a peace agreement!
The Pentagon announced on August 19, 2026, that the major 11-day Freedom Ulchi Shield joint military exercises with South Korea would be cut in half. This followed President Trump’s social media announcement on August 16 that he would “substantially reduce” these joint military exercises.
In response to Trump, South Korea’s Presidential Office stated that it “hopes that the friendly relationship between the U.S. and North Korean leaders will lead to meaningful dialogue between the two countries, opening discussions aimed at advancing peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.” South Korean President Lee Jae Myung has also renewed his push to regain wartime operational control from the United States. Meanwhile, North Korea’s leadership stated that reducing the scale and duration of the exercises does not change their “provocative and offensive” nature, though the relationship between Trump and Kim “remains excellent.”
Now is the time to write to Congress in support of peace efforts with North Korea. Congress must act as an independent check to keep any renewed diplomatic process from being undermined. As the nation that is still at war with the DPRK, the U.S. must act to end its longest war and pursue diplomacy. The window for engagement is limited — peace cannot wait another generation. Urge your Member of Congress to Support US-DPRK dialogue and a peace agreement. Fill in your information to deliver the below letter to your Representative and Senators.

Dear Members of Congress,
We urge you to support diplomacy toward reducing risk and de-escalation on the Korean Peninsula, including reopening dialogue with North Korea and advancing a lasting peace. After 76 years of war, the United States must pursue every reasonable opportunity to reduce the threat of conflict, improve the lives of Korea’s 80 million people, and move toward a durable resolution that strengthens security for both Koreans and Americans
Congress must learn from the 2018-19 Trump-Kim process, which collapsed without a durable nuclear or peace agreement, and left a diplomatic freeze. Former National Security Adviser John Bolton later admitted he worked to derail that process, encouraging President Trump to walk away by demanding full denuclearization up front. Congress must independently back diplomacy and hold the administration accountable.
It is long past time to convert the armistice into real peace. South Korean President Lee Jae-Myung has called for ending hostilities and pursuing peaceful coexistence. Most U.S. voters support diplomatic engagement with North Korea, and Kim Jong-un has said North Korea would return to talks if Washington drops denuclearization as a precondition for talks and accepts peaceful coexistence. Proactive U.S. steps create an incentive for North Korea to re-engage. This is a real opportunity to re-start a peace process — and peace cannot wait another generation.
We urge Congress to seize this moment and push Trump towards meaningful diplomacy:
1. Hold Trump accountable to follow through on diplomacy. Congress must act as an independent check to protect any renewed dialogue and ensure talks prioritize policies that guarantee security for Koreans and Americans.
2. Endorse proposals for talks with North Korea to formally end the war and establish peaceful coexistence.
3. Co-sponsor H.R.1841, the Peace on the Korean Peninsula Act, to push the U.S. government toward a formal peace agreement.
4. Support de-escalation and confidence-building measures, including canceling future joint military exercises, as U.S. lawmakers have done before, and respecting South Korea’s stated interests in transfering wartime operational control.
Sincerely,
Your Constituent
