URGENT! Call on your MP to ban oily donations!
What’s happening?
On Friday 26th April, Richard Burgon MP’s Members of Parliament (Oil and Gas companies) Bill will have its second reading in Parliament. The Bill is calling for a ban on MPs taking donations and benefits of other kinds from oil and gas companies, and for the MP pension fund to divest from fossil fuels. The Bill is supported by an Early Day Motion (EDM), which has so far been signed by 31 MPs.
The Bill’s second reading is a brilliant opportunity to push for greater support among MPs for a Parliament free from the influence of fossil fuels. Together, we can urge more MPs to both sign the EDM backing the Bill, and to double-down on their support by signing the No Fossil Funding pledge - to state that they do not and will not take benefits from the fossil fuel industry.
Seize the moment!
Will you write to your MP now urging them to:
Sign Early Day Motion 221 in support of Richard Burgon’s Bill?
Sign Fossil Free Parliament’s No Fossil Funding pledge?
Thank you for taking action with us!

How do I find out if my MP has signed either the EDM or the No Fossil Funding pledge?
To see the full list of MPs who have signed the EDM, visit this page: https://edm.parliament.uk/early-day-motion/61700/members-of-parliament-oil-and-gas-companies-bill
To see the full list of MPs who have signed the No Fossil Funding pledge, visit this page:

What can I do if my MP has already signed the EDM or the No Fossil Funding pledge?
If your MP has already signed the EDM, but not the No Fossil Funding pledge, please use this email tool to write to them just about the pledge.
If your MP has already signed the No Fossil Funding pledge, but not the EDM, you can amend the email copy to thank your MP for signing the pledge and point to the fact that their pledge signature suggests that they would likely also be supportive of the EDM..!
What can I do if my MP has already signed both?
That’s brilliant! You may wish to email your MP thanking them for signing both the EDM and the pledge, and asking if they can further their support. For suggestions about ways in which MPs can further their support, get in touch with us via info@fossilfreeparliament.uk
My MP is a Minister, does that mean they can’t sign the EDM or pledges?
Ministers are not allowed to sign EDMs - so do not write to your MP about the EDM if they are a Minister. They are also less likely to sign pledges, but that does not mean that you cannot ask them, and suggest alternative ways to support the call for a Fossil Free Parliament if they reply saying they cannot sign.
