Write a Public Comment to the Office of Civil Rights on Possible Amendments to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973
Recently, the U.S. Department of Education announced plans to gather public input on possible amendments to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the landmark disability civil rights law, in order to strengthen and protect the rights of students with disabilities. This comes at a time of continued failures to meet the needs of disabled students during this ongoing pandemic through the unmitigated spread of infectious disease that limits students’ ability to learn and impacts other life activities.
We are encouraging everyone to submit comments during this period to ensure the Department knows what the public feels is important to address in this matter and that they must do better now and in the future.
We also are collecting these comments to post online and to possibly present them physically to the OCR in person. Reminder that these comments are public record and may be made available through the Department. Please be aware of this when writing your comments to avoid revealing identifying information you wish kept confidential.
