Mountain Lions Don't Play Golf!

LA City Council

YIMBY Los Angeles

Builders want to turn the Woodland Hills Country Club, an underused golf course, into hundreds of new homes: small-lot houses, low density apartments, and affordable housing. State law says projects like this should be quickly approved, but Councilmember Blumenfield and a handful of local opponents are trying to stop it anyway.

Their latest move is a ruling that the golf course is mountain lion habitat. It isn't. Mountain lions live in native chaparral full of rabbits and deer, not on mowed fairways and sand traps. The finding has worked for now, though, and the homes are stalled.

Every month of delay means fewer seniors able to downsize in their own neighborhood, fewer families able to afford the Valley, and more pressure on rents for everyone.

Sign the petition to tell City Council: keep the mountain lions out of this, stop the delay tactics, and let these homes get built.

We, the undersigned, urge you to follow state law and allow the proposed housing at the Woodland Hills Country Club to move forward.

This project would turn an underused golf course into small-lot homes, townhomes, and senior housing, including affordable units. Our region badly needs all of these. California law AB 2011/2243 requires cities to approve qualifying housing projects like this one without unnecessary delay.

A manicured golf course is not mountain lion habitat, and it should not be treated as a reason to block homes. We ask the City Council to stop obstructing this project, comply with state housing law, and let these homes be built.

Respectfully,
