Protect Our Vote! Support the expansion of absentee ballot voting
Senator Tony Hwang, Senator Heather Sommers, Senator Kevin Witkos, Senator Dan Champagne,
Despite the unprecedented COVID-19 crisis, both Republican and Democratic governors across the country have embraced vote-by-mail. Recent polls show that 60% of Americans support allowing people to vote via absentee ballot, including 73% percent of Democrats and 46% of Republicans. Yet, this commonsense step has been met by political resistance in Connecticut.
The Republican Senate and House Minority leaders both came out against measure to expand absentee ballot voting, and the GOP party chair accused Secretary of State Denise Merrill of pushing “a liberal agenda” during a crisis. That conflict has caused Governor Ned Lamont to take a non-committal position on the issue.

No voter should have to choose between exercising their democratic right or protecting their health. Expanding absentee voting will keep voters and election officials safe from further spreading COVID-19 while allowing them to cast their ballot in the 2020 elections.
