Save Tara 2021 - Don't repeat the mistakes of the M3, move the Leinster Orbital motorway north of Navan
Jackie Maguire, Chief Executive, Meath County Council; Eoin Ryan, Minister for Transport, Peter Walsh, Chief Executive, Transport Infrastructure Ireland,
Since the Leinster Orbital corridor preferred route was announced in 2012, Tara Skryne Preservation group (TSPG) has called for the route corridor to be moved north of Navan away from Tara's Landscape and Brú Na Bóinne UNESCO world heritage site.
This will
1. avoid a repeat of the mistakes of the M3, the costly desecration of Irish heritage.
2. avoid future conflicts between heritage and economic development in Meath
Since 2012, Irish Ministers for Transport, Meath County Council and Irish transport bodies (NRA/TII) have passed the ball on this issue. Meath Council's proposal to reserve land along the preferred route would have effectively locked-in the current route.
Transport Infrastructure Ireland's emails to TSPG and submission to the Meath County Development plan 2021 show this route needs to be revisited immediately.
As a major North South economic corridor, it is essential that TII provide clarity for Meath planning, tourism and businesses.
We are asking these three bodies to re-open the Corridor route immediately and move the corridor route North of Navan, away from the sensitive archaeological landscapes.
