Stand with College Court Against Slumlords & Gentrification

Neville Barrett (Euro Tech) & Simmons College

Historic College Court sits in one of our city’s oldest Black neighborhoods and was the first public housing site where Black Louisvillians were allowed to live. In the 1980s, tenants gained the right to purchase their homes and collectively manage the community. But after a rich developer named Neville Barrett (Euro Tech) bought several units and forced the property into receivership in 2013, rents and fees have soared while the buildings have been neglected and maintenance requests ignored. Barrett has now sold his units to Simmons College, which plans to displace both renters and homeowners. Simmons is also actively fundraising for this gentrification. Residents, neighbors, and local leaders are rallying to protect this community.

Sign the petition to stand with tenants and help stop the displacement!

We, the undersigned, stand together with the current residents of College Court Condominiums:

1. Against Gentrification,

2. Against Slumlords, and

3. In Support of Tenant Reclamation of College Court Management & Co-Governance

Current residents have a right to remain in their homes—whether they rent or own—despite developer interests in the area.
