Kick Aramark off Campus!
Chancellor Gillman
Students choose UCI because of its history of academic integrity, ethics, diversity, and focus on sustainability, but does our dining service provider share those same values? Aramark, UCI’s food provider, has relied on prisons for 86% of its profit. They exploited incarcerated individuals for labor and fed them maggot-infested and scarce food for profit (Ankey, 2020; Aramark, 2019)! They also neglected massive sanitation regulations, especially critical during COVID-19 (Aramark, 2019). We urge Chancellor Gillman to consider student-led in-house dining like UC Berkeley for an ethical cafeteria, supporting local, fresh produce. We, students, urge Chancellor Gillman to terminate UC Irvine’s contract with Aramark.
