While the fossil fuel industry has been raking in record profits over the Iran war, we are paying the price with a record high cost of living crisis. People are struggling to put food on their plates, or even losing their homes!
Fossil fuel giants are making massive profits. Shell has made $1.3 billion in extra profits from the Iran war alone. BP reported an additional $1.8 billion in extra profits., Total also reported an additional $1.8 billion in extra profits. These extra profits add to the additional profits being made over the wars in Ukraine and Gaza.
The fossil fuel industry should not be allowed to profit from war!
That is why we, as Fridays For Future, want to demand that governments heavily tax these gross profits made by the fossil fuel industry. These tax incomes should be used to help the people suffering most from the cost of living crisis, not any short-term solutions, but long-term solutions by investing in renewable energy projects.

By investing in renewables, we make our societies more resilient against power struggles from a few world leaders. When energy is produced locally and not dependent on the global oil and gas markets, energy prices remain stable, and renewables have proven to be a cheap source of energy.
