Stop the City of Vermillion from firing a veteran public service worker over 2 minutes
City of Vermillion
We, the undersigned, call on the City of Vermillion to immediately halt efforts to suspend or terminate Brandon Steeneck, a dedicated public service worker and U.S. veteran.
Brandon has never been disciplined, never been late for a shift, and has served the City of Vermillion with reliability and integrity. He currently lives 17 minutes from his worksite, just 2 minutes beyond the City’s 15-minute policy. For years, he operated under a clear verbal agreement with his previous supervisor: when on call, he stays with his sister who lives within the 15-minute range.
Now, a new supervisor is trying to tear up that agreement and punish Brandon for following the same arrangement he has had for years.
This is not about 2 minutes. This is about fairness, respect, and honoring both the service and the livelihood of a veteran and public servant. Brandon should not lose his job because of an arbitrary interpretation of policy.
We demand that the City of Vermillion:
-
End disciplinary actions against Brandon Steeneck.
-
Honor his established agreement to meet the on-call requirement.
-
Protect public service workers from unfair treatment and arbitrary enforcement of policies.
