We, the undersigned, urgently request that Congress cancels student loan debt for all federal student loan borrowers. This action will support the financial well-being of 45 million Americans burdened by this debt.
Specifically, we ask Congress to:

- Immediately discharge federal student loan balances for over 40 million Americans, prioritizing those who have met Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) and Income-Driven Repayment (IDR) forgiveness thresholds.
- Make student loan forgiveness tax-exempt.

Over 5 million Americans are currently in default, and nearly 5 million more are at risk of defaulting on their student loans due to rising living costs and low wages. Student loan debt is a national crisis that impedes financial stability, homeownership, and generational wealth building. Borrowers face difficult choices between essential needs and loan payments.

Many borrowers, particularly those who are low-income, first-generation, and people of color, are disproportionately affected and face daily financial hardship and default rates. Canceling student loan debt would be a crucial step towards economic justice, dismantling an oppressive repayment system.

Congress must act now to cancel student loan debt. This would provide immediate relief to nearly 45 million Americans, stimulate economic growth, restore stability, remove financial barriers, and enable borrowers to invest in their futures.
