SIGN ON: Stop the destruction of the Dept. of Education!

Donald Trump’s attacks on public education are an attack on every single community in the United States -- and the attacks began the day he took office.

One of the first moves of his administration was to begin dismantling the Department of Education -- laying off roughly half of its workforce. The first people fired oversaw the Department’s Office of Civil Rights, which protects students from discrimination and sexual violence, and the office responsible for processing financial aid, including student loans and Pell Grants for millions of students each year.

The Department of Education oversees services for over 50 million K-12 students and another 12 million post-secondary students each year. Trump’s cuts are particularly harmful for students from low-income families and students with disabilities.

Now, the administration is using Trump’s government shutdown to target students with disabilities by firing virtually everyone overseeing Special Education and Rehabilitation Services.

Back in March, Attorneys General from 20 states and the District of Columbia sued the Trump administration to stop the dismantling of the Department of Education. But since then, Trump’s attacks have only expanded.

The Department of Education must remain a strong advocate for students, teachers, and public schools, not a tool to push Trump’s political agenda.

Urge all Attorneys General to turn up the heat, join the lawsuit, and do everything they can to stop Trump’s dismantling of the Department of Education now!
